From April 2017, companies with an annual payroll of more than £3mil will have to pay a 0.5% levy which will fund £3bn a year worth of apprenticeships and help the Tory government to keep their post-election promise to create 3 million new apprenticeships. But is yesterday’s announcement from the Chancellor a step in the right direction or will it have little effect on how apprenticeships are used to develop the skills of the nation’s young people?
