The Institution for Further Education is a membership organisation for the higher performing FE colleges and training providers. It will offer members a collective status akin to that which a university has. The Institution is still in the course of development and its website should be public shortly.
Presently, Lord Lingfield is petitioning the Privy Council for a Royal Charter. This will enable the Institution to become a chartered body, authoritative and independent of government as shown by Lord Lingfield’s leadership. It has been set up with initial funding from BIS but will ultimately be sustained by private sector income, mainly in the form of members’ subscriptions. As we are in very early stages of establishing this system, costs and funding are yet to be finalised.
