Yorkshire Water, one of the region’s largest employers, has launched a search for 15 new apprentices – its biggest ever intake.
The apprentices – who can be of any age, from college leavers to mature people looking to retrain – will be trained in a variety of areas including process and production and innovation and delivery.
The two or three-year programmes include college study, with all candidates supported by a mentor or buddy from relevant departments.
Each apprentice will be on a starting salary of £11,742 and at the end of the scheme will be offered a full-time job.
“We recognise that as one of the region’s largest employers, we’re in a privileged position to be able to boost employment in the region and support the local economy at a time when it’s most welcome,” said director of human resources Pamela Rogerson.
“Our burgeoning apprentice scheme is vital to the development of our business, introducing new people with fresh ideas and developing talent to ensure that we continue to provide our customers with the high quality service they’ve come to expect from us.”
Yorkshire Water has taken on 25 apprentices in the two years since the scheme was launched, in a variety of roles and as part of a drive to ensure it has employees with the skills it requires and to bring in fresh talent.
Schools and colleges have been contacted with details of the scheme.
Yorkshire Water also runs a graduate recruitment and training programme, taking on 10 university leavers in September last year, with plans to do the same later this year.
The company’s chief executive Richard Flint originally joined as a trainee on the graduate programme.
The opening date for applications for the apprenticeship scheme is Monday, June 11.
