Why it’s a great idea | This is Nottingham
THERE are many reasons why companies might want to employ an apprentice. Here are some facts about apprenticeships:
There are more than 200 different types of apprenticeships across the country.
In 2010-11, there were 10,170 apprenticeships started in Nottingham and Notts – more than double that of two years previously.
The average wage per week for an apprentice is now around £170, with some job roles bringing in around £210 per week.
It costs nothing to be an apprentice. All training fees are covered by the National Apprenticeship Service and the employer.
For the employers, help and support is available for recruitment. Vacancies can be advertised free on the National Apprenticeship Service’s website.
There is a huge range of training providers to match an employer’s needs and deliver the off-the-job training element of the apprenticeship.
Employers who already have apprentices tend to agree that they are the best way of training new staff as they can mould them in the way they expect.
