Apprentice campaign reaches the 150 mark

THE Post’s campaign to find 200 apprentices in 100 days has today reached the 150 mark.

The Get Notts Working campaign originally aimed to find 100 apprentices but proved so successful that the target was upped.

Today, Remit Training pledged a further 27 apprentices, on top of the 20 it has already pledged.

It is the largest number from any one business and means that only 50 more are needed by the end of the campaign on June 28.

Nottingham-based company Remit works with around 5,400 apprentices across the UK in the motor industry, food, hospitality, IT and passenger transport sectors.

Recruitment manager Mick Pilling said: “Out of the 47 apprenticeships we have created during the Post’s campaign, 32 of those have been filled and we are actively trying to fill the rest.

“Sixteen of them are in the automotive trade, nine are in IT and the other 22 are in customer services.

“Our main focus is to find apprenticeships for the 16 to 18 age bracket and we are really good at doing that.

“We have a brilliant telesales team which we have built up over four years and all our field-based staff who help the apprentices with training and assessments are encouraged to generate new business and forge new links with businesses that could take on apprentices.

“We’re thrilled that the Post is succeeding with its campaign and that it has already achieved its target with time to spare. For us, creating apprenticeships is just business as usual so it is good to hear the Post is helping promote the idea.”

He added that the main challenge training firms like Remit face is talk of mass unemployment.

He said: “The reality is quite contrary to the doom and gloom of unemployment we hear about constantly on the news. So anything that publicises the availability of apprenticeships and shows employers the positive side of what we do has to be a good thing.”

The Get Notts Working campaign aims to support local people in their efforts to find a job. It is a partnership between the Post, Notts and Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce, the National Apprenticeship Service, Nottinghamshire City and County Employment and Skills Board, local councils as well as major local companies.
