Travelodge needs 40 more apprentices for Junior Management Programme


Travelodge is looking for a further 40 apprentices to join its Junior Management Programme (JuMP) this spring.

JuMP provides A level students with a fast-track route into management. School-leavers receive a total salary of £25,000 to £30,000 while undergoing the three-year on-the-job training, with the prospect of becoming a manager by the age of 21.

Launched in April 2011, JuMP was developed to support Travelodge’s strategy to have 1,100 hotels by 2025, although newly appointed chief executive Grant Hearn last week said that it might now take longer to achieve its target figure by that date.

The latest 40 apprenticeships are part of Travelodge’s commitment to recruit 120 apprentices this year. The company received over 3,000 CVs when it announced the first 45 apprentices of the year in January.

Travelodge HR director Michelle Luxford said the JuMP programme had got off to a fantastic start and was sought after by school-leavers who had decided not to go to university.

“The option to go to university is not a given like it used to be,” she said. “In today’s economy, many school-leavers cannot afford to go into further education and it’s no surprise that there is a 9% drop in university applications this year. With more than a million 16- to 24-year-olds unemployed, more companies have to invest into apprenticeship programmes to help these youngsters into the workplace. There is a huge pool of talent out there searching for an opportunity to start a career.”

Travelodge apprentices will attain a L2 apprenticeship in multi-skilled hospitality and a L3 diploma (advanced apprenticeship) in hospitality supervision & leadership. Upon completing the programme, apprentices will undertake the Travelodge in-house 12-week management development programme and then graduate to a management role.
